Here's a tune by one of the true MONSTERS of guitar... this one goes way back, tho, and see if anyone can guess it.. WHO IS IT?????? The winner will be the one with the correct answer.. er... duh... So what d'ya get , other than a warm fuzzy feelin' inside.. Well, lifetime free admittance to my gigs... OK that's a tough one, seeing as they're never announced ahead of time.. Normal booking practices for a band that make almost everything up on the spot for two hours straight, just don't apply... But also a Lossless copy of the stones' 'Midnight Beat' Boot "Acetates"! (yer choice of FLAC or whatever else...) (It's not out there in cyberspace!) Got yer moter runnin' NOW?

Hyuk! Not even in the ballpark... but i betcha Jimmy would cite HIM as an influence... :)
I thought I remembered hearing something really early from him years ago that didn't sound anything like the stuff he got famous for and this track reminded me of it, so I gave it a shot! :)
Well, Jimmy recorded on so many different sessions back in the day,in all different styles, that he probably DID record something sonding like this.. but it's not him...
hey.. try again.. ya could have heard it once years ago and who it was is just buried in yer subconcious!

Yeah, a tricky one indeed and I am almost sure I heard it before although it was many years ago...
I'd love to give it another shot, but I can't remember any details no matter how hard I'm trying - DANG!!!! :)
All I can remember is that HIM was playing in someone's backing band back then and thus did not release this track as a solo effort... If this should not be true about this tune, it probably isn't what I remember....

I mean, everybody and his sister has released stuff on Pickwick. The only name I am always associating with the label is Lou Reed (or Lewis Reed as he was calling himself back then), but as far as I remember he didn't release more than a few songs under his own name and on top of it all, this "surfy" sound doesn't really make me think of him at all....

This is really tough. The style is familiar but I can't pinpoint the player. I used to get this from a friend all the time, he would put a tune on and ask "Who's this then?" I've not had much time to study this as I've just started a new job. I've rejected Freddie King, Lonnie Mack, Roy Buchanan and many other names. It sounds mid 60's to me and there's two guitars. I know Albert King played with Booker T so that would give me Steve Cropper on the 2nd guitar and account for the organ. I'm not confident that it is Albert King as I've got a lot of his stuff. Whoever it is it's great esp the little flurries towards the end.
Hendrix released stuff on the pickwick label here in the UK, Curtis Knight era stuff but I don't think it's him either. Something about the style is so familiar but I can't quite put a name to it.
That makes it two of us! :)

Here's another hint..
Pickwick released a 'capitol records series' which had a couple less songs on each.. so it was likely originally released on Capitol... the genre that this player finally entered (and is still in 40 years later) was Not rock or blues... and he's known as a phenom guitarist..

He was called 'The most recorded guitarist in the world' and the Wrecking Crew played on tons of stuff. Two more guesses are Jim Mcguinn or Billy Strange. I've got the Stones stuff, I am just interested in the challenge of who the hell this is.

I must admit that Roy Clark is very obscure to me, hence the difficulty in getting it. I am at work which may explain the problems with listening to stuff. All I get on this computer is an outline of the box with a red cross in it. Cheers Doc, I've discovered another guitarist that I did'nt really know.
